(I-TravelNewswire.Com, October 17, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- Eric Schmidt made comments regarding Google’s desire to become Yahoo’s search engine partner.
According to Schmidt, Google would be delighted to replace Microsoft’s Bing as the new search engine partner. Kenneth Maxwell confirmed the reports of Google’s interest.
Maxwell official statement reads as follows:
“Yes, I can confirm, Eric Schmidt definitely said they’d be interested in working with Yahoo US. He also said nothing doing for the time being, but they would be interested. It was also mentioned to him that there is new management at Yahoo US with a Google connection. But he played it pretty straight…. He also said they had expressed this interest to Yahoo before on a number of occasions.”
As an Executive Chairman of Google Inc., Schmidt was involved in 2008 talks with Google.
The talks resulted in a fallout of a Microsoft buyout. However, Google and Yahoo both wanted to reach an agreement and each worked toward making it happen. Unfortunately, the two companies faced a government block on the deal, ensuring it would not solidify.
What adds some intrigue to the possible partnership is that new CEO Marissa Mayer is a former developer at Google. She recently left Google and was named Yahoo’s CEO. She has yet to make an official statement on Yahoo’s new direction, but has already gone on record stating that the company should focus more on user experience.
Mayer was a force behind Google’s simple and effective search pages. A deal between Mayer and Schmidt would be seen as simply making sense.
