(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 16, 2009 ) CARTAGO, Costa Rica—Tropical Adventures is known for their innovative Costa Rica adventures that combine sightseeing and activities with the opportunity to become truly involved with this unique country and its people by working with them as volunteers. They have been working very closely with the town of Bambu on the Talamanca Indigenous Reservation to improve their school, retirement home and cultural center. They have now obtained a grant to develop a farmer’s market in partnership with Children Incorporated. The grant is set at $15,000 and has provisions to to increase to $25,000.
The market will provide a point for outsiders to access their organic chocolate and beautiful handiwork. The indigenous have relied on raising banana and plantain crops, but these are periodically destroyed by flooding. Clients of Tropical Adventures will be involved in building the structures needed for the market and in their ongoing maintenance. Bambu residents offer a series of unique tours, including a dugout boat tour down the Suretka River into Panama, a tour of an organic banana farm and an overnight camping trip to the International Park of Friendship.
Tropical Adventures is the leader in volunteer tourism in Costa Rica and introduces all guests to local families, local artisans, local traditional food and hires only local residents.
