(EMAILWIRE.COM, June 21, 2009 ) JUNEAU, Alaska- Let freedom ring this summer and celebrate 50 years of Alaska statehood. The capital city of Juneau is looking forward to a festive 4th of July Celebration with the theme “Eight Stars of Gold”.
The celebration begins July 3rd with an evening of festivities hosted by the Capital City Celebrations. A picnic will be held in conjunction with the Juneau Arts & Humanities CouncilÂ’s Concert in the Park at Marine Park in downtown Juneau. Followed by LetÂ’s Dance! with The Diamonds at Centennial Hall and ending with a fireworks display on the Gastineau Channel Channel at 11:59pm.
The festivities continue the next day with a flag raising ceremony in honor of the 50th Anniversary of Statehood Celebration. A reenactment of the 1959 flag raising and the ringing of the bell 49 times to signify AlaskaÂ’s place as the 49th state in the Union takes place on the lawn at the Juneau-Douglas City Museum. The celebration continues with a good ole fashioned 4th of July parade traveling through the streets of downtown Juneau starting at 12noon.
