(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 07, 2009 ) SAN JUAN del SUR, Nicaragua—On a recent visit to San Juan del Sur, the Worlds Vets Organization provided a very successful spay/neuter clinic in collaboration with the nonprofit veterinary clinic of Piedras y Olas Hotel. Piedras y Olas is a one-of-a-kind luxury hotel, resort and residential community created on a socially conscious business model.
Located on the hotel property, the veterinary clinic and developing wildlife sanctuary have become favorite venues for visitors to the area. Both welcome and care for animals, domestic and wild, that have been injured, injured, ill-treated or abandoned by their previous human owners. Among the animals, who welcome the attention, are spider and white faced capuchin monkeys and a Peccary named Bella. Kittens are daily arrivals, a result of the large local cat population. A popular event for cat-loving visitors is to witness feeding time each day at 5 pm.
Due to the success of the recent spay/neuter event, the veterinary clinic, known as Stones and Waves, will now be a World Vets sponsored clinic and receive regular vet visits, necessary medical supplies and four spay/neuter clinics a year. The clinic is also planning to send 3 of their young staff to train at the Spay Panama intensive sterilization program.
Piedras y Olas Hotel offers 66 contemporary units and is one of the biggest employers in the community. The property also features two gourmet restaurants and three infinity pools; the whole complex is surrounded by lush, landscaped gardens and is close to white sandy beaches perfect for surfing. In partnership with its founders, Fundacion A. Jean Brugger and Piedras y Olas, Stones and Waves veterinary clinic and wildlife sanctuary receives most of its current funding through the generosity of guests and visitors. A stay at Piedras y Olas will support these objectives, along with the many other projects and programs of this unique partnership.
Piedras y Olas is easily reached by American, Continental and TACA with transfers arranged from Managua International Airport. ###
