Veteran outdoorswoman Cheryl Fleet treats travelers to these sights – and many more -- on the Magic Morocco trip April 20 through May 1, 2010. Especially for women, this multi-activity journey offers unforgettable experiences including hiking the Atlas Mountains, rafting the Ahansal River and riding camels to an overnight campsite in the Sahara Desert.
“Of all my adventures around the world, riding a camel to an overnight camp in the Sahara is the best. We feast on traditional food and marvel at the stars.” Fleet said. “Morocco is also the safest place I’ve ever traveled as they have a wonderful tradition of caring for the traveler. This comes from their heritage where merchants from all over NW Africa have met for centuries in Jemaa el-Fna Square (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and where we spend time watching the snake charmers and story tellers.”
Fleet is the founder of Canyon Calling Adventures for Women which provides multi-activity getaways especially for women. But Canyon Calling doesnÂ’t stop at activities. Fleet believes travelers cannot connect with the land without connecting with the people. ThatÂ’s why this trip is not only full of activities but also chances to meet and connect with the people of Morocco and its unique culture.
While hiking in the Atlas Mountains, for example, women are encouraged to bring school supplies and toothbrushes for the village children. The tour is also treated to a traditional meal prepared by an English-speaking Moroccan woman in her own home. Travelers also have the benefit of a native guide who teaches them how to bargain for handicrafts at the local bazaars. They’ll also tour the Hassan II Mosque – one of the only Mosques to allow Westerners inside.
