(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 13, 2011 ) ESTES PARK, Colo.- Deciding what to do with teens in the summer can be difficult; theyÂ’ve passed the age of traditional camp but may not be ready for a summer job. YMCA of the RockiesÂ’ Camp Chief Ouray has a unique, life-changing solution: travel and volunteer in Peru. Mixing service, fun, and Peruvian culture Camp Chief OurayÂ’s Trekker Peru, promises teens the chance to learn and grow in the safety of an adult-supervised trip. From July 24th-August 12th, a small group of 15-17 year-olds, will travel through PeruÂ’s historic cities and sites, participate in dance and and music lessons, try new adventures such as sand boarding and desert camping, and help with local service projects along the way.
Activities include:
• Exploring the city and catacombs of Lima
• Community service project and Latin dance class in Independencia
• Visiting the largest water park in South America
• Sand boarding, dune buggy, and desert camping in the Ica Desert
• Visiting a local orphanage
• Touring Pachacamac, an archaeological site famous for pre-Incan pyramids
• Merengue and Peruvian box drum lessons
• Helping with an environmental project
