(EMAILWIRE.COM, June 02, 2011 ) SHERIDAN, Wyo.- Sheridan, WyomingÂ’s dedication to art shines during the 5th Annual Big West Arts Festival. During the weekend of August 6th and 7th, artists from across the nation will transform the Sheridan College campus into a metropolis of culinary, visual, and performance art.
The juried events take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with live music continuing until 11 p.m. on August 6th and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with music continuing until 6 p.m. on August 7th. The work of 50 selected visual artists will be featured, along with six teams of welders in the welding rodeo. welding rodeo. In addition to viewing the diverse works of art and sampling culinary specialties, festival goers can dance along to over 20 live musical performances. This family-friendly festival is free to the public.
“It’s really a positive thing for Sheridan College to show our support for art by hosting the Big West Arts Festival,” Festival Co-Director, Rod Dugal said. “Sheridan College is invested in all aspects of art, and this event is our way of bringing together local and national artists in an entertaining and active setting.”

Sheridan, Wyoming has a growing art community year round. Visitor’s to this 2011 Distinctive Destination, can pick up an “Arts on Display” brochure and explore 40 works of public art including historic stained-glass windows, outdoor sculpture, and paintings. Lively stage performances can be found at the Carriage House and WYO Theaters. For those looking to take home a piece of Sheridan, there are numerous art galleries in the historic Main Street District.
During the summer there are many ways to enjoy the arts of Sheridan including the annual Celebrate the Arts Festival June 9-11, a weekly summer concert series at Kendrick Park, and 3rd Thursday Street Festivals.
