(EMAILWIRE.COM, June 23, 2011 ) Cedar City, UT -- The American Canyoneering Association (ACA) recently announced that the Zion Canyon Festival and ACA Rendezvous will be taking place at Zion Ponderosa Ranch September 10-18, 2011. The festival will bring together canyoneers from around the world for exploratory canyoning, technical training, canyoneering workshops and courses, gear demos, and much more. To add to the excitement, the ACA will be hosting the first annual 'Canyoneering Film Festival' during this year's ACA Zion Canyon Festival and Rendezvous.
In addition to the activities that are a part of the Rendezvous, the film festival includes the screening of films that span a broad range of topics from ‘creeking’ to ‘canyoneering’. Prizes will be awarded for the winning films and there is no submission fee to enter a film for the contest. The Film Festival begins the evening of September 15th, 2011 with the premier of Gorging, a controversial documentary about the origins, politics, and future of canyoneering. The 2011 ACA Zion Rendezvous event will run over the course of nine days, including two weekends and the week in between. Rendezvous activities will include daily explorations of Zion's most exciting canyons, workshops conducted by Canyons & Crags, ACA canyon leader and guides meetings, and much more.
The American Canyoneering Association is the premier source for training, certification, and services for recreational canyoneers, canyon guides, and rescue professionals in the United States, Canada, and Latin America. It was founded in 1999 with a three-fold purpose of promoting safety, self-reliance, and ethics through education; facilitating the exchange of ideas and information among an international canyoneering community, and providing venues for networking between canyoneers; regionally, nationally, and internationally. The ACA continues to be instrumental in setting standards and providing leadership for the canyoneering community.
