Southwest Idaho Prepares for First Annual North Fork Championship Whitewater Festival

Paddlers of all ages and abilities will find rivers and rapids to enjoy in Southwest Idaho

(I-TravelNewswire.Com, May 23, 2012 ) BOISE, Idaho- Southwest Idaho has long been a playground for whitewater paddlers. This summer a new festival and competition will highlight the sport of whitewater kayaking and the rapids of the Payette River. June 7-9, 2012 will be the first annual North Fork Championship Whitewater Festival bringing elite whitewater kayakers to compete in southwest Idaho. This spectator friendly event kicks off at Boise’s Egyptian Theatre with screenings of top whitewater kayaking films from production companies like Forge Motion Pictures, Bomb Flow, Tribe, Red Bull, and Airborne Athletics. The 30 international athletes chosen to compete will be introduced at Thursday night’s screenings.

The next two days will be all about the whitewater as paddlers and spectators move north to Crouch, Idaho and the North Fork of the Payette River. The land portion of the Whitewater Festival will be held in Weilmunster Park with local and national businesses being showcased. Competitors will be just outside of town battling their way through the rapids of the North Fork. Festivities are planned following each day of competition, with an outdoor concert Friday night and an award ceremony followed by a Disco Party Saturday night.

Visitors to Southwest Idaho can get a taste of the whitewater action with outfitted rafting trips on the Snake and Payette Rivers and manmade obstacles at Kelly’s Whitewater Park in Cascade.
