WANT Expeditions Appoints Sharon Schafer as New Expedition Leader

(I-TravelNewswire.Com, September 24, 2014 ) TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – WANT Expeditions – the world leader in highly personalized, conservation oriented, small group travel – announces artist, photographer and wildlife biologist Sharon K. Schafer as the newest expedition leader with the WANT team. Schafer will lead the Namibia Culture and Nature Safari in June 2015.

Schafer has a diversified background with skills ranging from wildlife biologist, naturalist, photographer, writer, painter and river guide. Now as a full time artist and photographer, she is able to combine her two passions – nature and art.

“Sharon is an absolutely incredible artist with talent,” says Jessica Pociask, owner of WANT Expeditions. “I'm excited to promote her as a new tour leader for our upcoming Namibia trip, as a featured wildlife photographer and artist.”

Schafer earned her degree in Wildlife Management at Humboldt State University in northern California. Subsequently, she worked as a field wildlife biologist for the Soil Conservation Service, Pacific Gas and Electric, and the Bureau of Land Management. Over the years, she has developed natural resource related educational exhibits and images for the U.S. National Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and U.S. Forest Service among others.

In an effort to combine her interest in art and natural science, Schafer opened Skydance Studio in 1998. The studio is dedicated to the creation of fine art images that promote a deeper understanding and appreciation for the beauty and diversity of the natural world. Schafer is a signature member of Artists for Conservation and the Society of Animal Artists. Her paintings and photographs have been displayed in museums across the country.

Schafer’s sense of adventure and curiosity about the natural world has led her to the ends of the earth, where she has worked extensively as an artist, photographer, and videographer in the Arctic, Antarctic, and the Sub-Antarctic Islands. She presently resides in Boulder City, Nevada where her studio overlooks the inspiring beauty of the Mojave Desert.

Schafer’s current fine art exhibit entitled "The Art of Nature: Images from the Wildlands of Southern Nevada" is on display at the Nevada State Museum Sept. 3-Oct 9, 2014, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act. She will also have a watercolor portrait of a young red-footed booby in the Artists for Conservation International Exhibit Sept. 27-Oct. 6, 2014, in Vancouver, B.C.
