Tasajee Addresses Common Weaknesses With Microfiber Travel Towels

How to wash microfiber towels

(I-TravelNewswire.Com, September 25, 2015 ) Melbourne, Victoria -- Tasajee introduced a new series of microfiber towels to the market in March 2015. The quick-dry microfiber fabric chosen was designed to make the towels compact, lightweight, highly absorbent and fast-drying. This makes the towels highly suited for travel and sports use. The microfiber blend used on Tasajee towels is 88% polyester, and 12% polyamide.

While robust in many respects, polyester-polyamide blend microfiber fabric is delicate in some other respects, particularly when it comes to heat sensitivity. For this reason, it is important to follow the care instructions on the towel label. There is also an information page under the FAQ menu on the Tasajee website which provides additional details on the characteristics of conjugated polyester-polyamide microfiber fabrics, as well as the main care instructions, and the reasons why these should be adhered to.

Over time, some customers may experience lower than normal moisture absorption rates from their towels. This can be caused by several factors, but it can almost always be traced back to a failure to adhere to the recommended care and laundering of the towels.

Microfibers are extremely fine synthetic threads, up to 1/16th the width of a human hair. Each thread is further split, with multiple polyester filaments bonding to the polyamide thread core. These polyester filaments, and the spaces between them, are extremely fine. The crevasses between the filaments become storage areas for oil and moisture absorption.

However, as these filaments are extremely fine and made of synthetic material, this introduces a weakness of heat sensitivity. If the towels are tumble dried or ironed in temperatures above 140°F or 60°C, the filaments can curl inward, or can even melt and bond together. Once this occurs, the damage to the fabric cannot be undone, and the microfiber will lose some of its absorption capacity.

A similar, yet this time temporary degradation in performance can occur if the towels are washed with fabric softener. In this instance, the oils and self-softening agents are the culprits, as these have a tendency to clog the spaces between the microfiber filaments. In this case, the damage is not permanent. The towel will simply need to be re-washed until the offending oils and chemical agents are flushed from the fabric.

Most forms of microfiber are lint free. However, the microfiber fabric carries a positive charge which attracts lint from other materials to it. While this is a positive attribute when microfiber is used for cleaning, the flip side is that it can also be a weakness. If microfiber towels are laundered with other fabrics, lint from other materials, and especially from cotton, can embed within the microfiber and compromise its absorption and fast-drying qualities. So ideally, microfiber should be laundered separately from other fabrics.

Tasajee microfiber towels are available on both Amazon.com (USA) and Amazon.ca (Canada).
