(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 25, 2010 ) GRANTS PASS, Ore.--The best of Oregon is highlighted this month in the April issue of Outside Magazine. The annual “Adventure Issue” highlights the top “20 Trips Of A Lifetime for 2010”. This year’s focus was affordable adventure travel in destinations all over the world. “Paddles and Pints”, a new trip offered by Oregon based outfitter, Rogue Wilderness Adventures was selected for this years’ honor in Outside Magazine.
“We’re really excited to be included in this prestigious listing of the worlds’ best”, said Rogue Wilderness Adventures owner Brad Niva. “We’ve always considered ourselves the best at what we do, but to get national recognition from Outside Magazine is wonderful; it’s a real pat on the back!”
“It's no small honor: we sifted through (literally) more than 750 trip nominations and picked 20”, said Abe Streep Senior Editor of Outside Magazine.
What was the award-winning combination for this special recognition in Outside Magazine to the Oregon company? Combine two Oregon ‘greats’ for the winning combination: beer and rafting. “Paddles and Pints” was the brainchild of Niva and longtime friend Mark Vickery of Golden Valley Brewery in McMinnville, Oregon.
Before Vickery came to McMinnville to brew for Golden Valley, he was known for some of the most famous beers that have come from Oregon: Black Butte Porter and Mirror Pond Pale Ale that he created as head brew master at Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon.
“I was trying to bring together two of my favorite things. Since I love this kind of trip, I thought others would love it too,” says Niva.
The trip is a three day rafting trip departing Grants Pass, Oregon, floating 34 miles through the ‘Wild and Scenic’ Rogue River canyon. Each day rafters enjoy the beauty of the Rogue River that has been protected since a law was passed by congress in 1969. In the afternoon rafters will arrive at camp, where the Rogue Wilderness Adventures staff has set up camp. After settling into camp, Vickery will lead classes on the art of beer making and participants will sample beers from around the world.
The trip is three days and two nights. Cost is $935 per person and includes all meals, transportation, camping, and rafting equipment. Beer is included too. Dates: Friday August 27 thru 29th. Secondary date in September will be available due to demand.
