SOUTHWEST IDAHO-This winter travel to Southwest Idaho to sip wine and ski slopes. Bogus Basin was created over 65 years ago by a group of volunteers and has grown into a full service recreation area. The volunteer spirit still exists here with the area credited as a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization and the current Board of Directors and Association are still made up of volunteers. From mid-November to mid-October the mountain is abuzz with activities for snow enthusiasts including 7 lifts, 37K of groomed Nordic trails, lit runs for night skiing and an 800 foot foot tubing hill. Three full service guest lodges offer the chance for a rest and hot cocoa between runs.
After a couple of days enjoying the mountain head south to check out the areaÂ’s growing wine region. Over 20 wineries and 1400 acres of vineyards are located in southwest Idaho with many gaining national attention through awards and sustainable practices. For a look at urban winemaking, take a trip to Cinder Winery in Garden City. Located just 5 minutes outside Boise, Cinder has been part of IdahoÂ’s first cooperative winery since 2008 and recently opened their own tasting room. For a broader look at the wineries let Idaho Winery Tours show you around. Half and full day tours are available, or have them do all of the work and customize a wine/ski package.
