(EMAILWIRE.COM, June 14, 2010 ) BOISE, Idaho– Basque culture heavily populates small pockets of the United States and Idaho is one state that boasts one of the highest numbers of residents of Basque descent. To celebrate the rich culture, every five years, the international Basque community gathers together for culture, cuisine, drinking, dancing and traditional festivities during Jaialdi, an international Basque cultural festival on July 27-31.
Something for Everyone: Time-honored dancing and activities are showcased during the event, including amazing feats of strength like hay-bale throwing, wood chopping and wagon lifting. There will be more than 15 traditional dance groups performing alongside traditional musicians and singers. Booths will also be set up all weekend, selling clothing, souvenirs and other novelties. Activities will be open to people of all ages throughout the weekend.
DonÂ’t Miss Out: The next Jaialdi wonÂ’t be for another five years, so now is the time to experience this unique festival. This is the United StateÂ’s premier Basque celebratory festival and nothing can compare.
Accommodation and Tickets: The first Jaialdi took place in 1987 and was planned as a one time event. Since then, the festival has taken over the streets of downtown Boise every five years and today more than 35,000 people attend.
