Tintagel Castle Cornwall Is Home To King Arthur And So Much More says Hotel-Cornwall.com

(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 21, 2012 ) Cornwall, UK -- The birthplace of King Arthur, North CornwallÂ’s Tintagel is a busy holiday village loved by locals and visitors alike. But Tintagel is known for much more than its famous royals; itÂ’s also the name of a symphonic poem composed by Arnold Bax in 1919. It was after visiting Tintagel castle Cornwall that Bax wrote the poem, which is said to depict a castle perched high on the rocks and battered by the Atlantic Ocean on a sunny day.

No trip to Tintagel would be complete without a visit to King Arthur’s Great Halls – a mesmerising building which accommodates the Round Table associated with King Arthur and the knights. Well worth a visit, the hall offers a ‘show’ of the story of Arthur. What’s interesting is that the main part of the building was built by Mr Glasscock (partner in the old firm of Monk & Glass Custard Powder) in the 1930s; the other partner was a relation of comedian Bob Monkhouse!

So while there are no big celebs from the village, thereÂ’s one star connected very heavily to it! ThatÂ’s not all either; Prince Charles and Camilla are fans of Tintagel, spotted taking a stroll along the clifftop in 2008.

A relatively small village, TintagelÂ’s population is less than 2,000 but itÂ’s now one of the most-visited places in Britain. Known for its glorious coastal scenery, itÂ’s the perfect destination for a spot of much-needed relaxation. However, there are still plenty of things to keep everyone from couples to families occupied for a long weekend.

Owned by the National Trust since 1903, The Old Post Office in Tintagel was originally a Fourteenth Century Manor House and continues to attract holidaymakers today. A rare survivor of an early Plantaganent Manor House, it was used as a post office during the latter part of the reign of Queen Victoria.

Elsewhere in Cornwall’s Tintagel, visitors can enjoy the beautiful St Nectan’s Glen – an absolute must-see if holidaying in the village. A stunning beauty spot in this wonderful part of the country, it’s a lovely way to take in some fresh air.

Managed by English Heritage and owned by the Duchy of Cornwall, Tintagel Castle was built by Earl Richard of Cornwall – the youngest son of King John. Visited annually by over 200,000 people from across the world, the castle really is one of the village’s highlights. Just make sure to remember to pack the camera!

Why not learn more about the secrets of Cornwall and visit the Museum of Witchcraft? A great family attraction, the museum is situated in nearby Boscastle and has remained here for over 50 years. Housing the largest collection of genuine witchcraft artefacts in the world, it fascinates both old and young week in, week out.

Enjoy a village steeped in history and some much-needed relaxation in the stunning village of Tintagel this year – one won’t be disappointed. For more, please visit http://www.hotel-cornwall.com/hotels-in-tintagel/
